Bruno. The pinacle of Art.

I just watched Bruno. It was by far the most intelligent work of human endevour I have ever witnessed. With the DVD extras, it is even more awe-inspriring. The mexican chair people. In the extras, they have a real conversation, with a real estate agent, about the relative merits of Mexican and Nicaraguan "slaves".
The finale of the film, where they set up aan event for fascists and use it to offend them in such a way as to make them reveal their ugliness is beautiful.
I don't have anything to say for the film which it doesn't say more eloquently for itself. I only register approval, enjoyment and learning.

  1. O.K. So that was feeble, so I'll say something about a scene. There's a lovely scene where Bruno, who has decided to become heterosexual for the sake of his career, goes for self defence lessons. He explains to his teacher that he wants to defend himself against homosexual attack. They both agree that homosexuals most probably would attack from behind and then Bruno leads the teachers through an ever more bizarre and paranoid set of scenarios, which end in Bruno acting out attacking his teacher wearing a strap on penis and wielding two giant dildoes.

The strange thing is that the teacher comes across as a really nice and non-judgemental guy, but comes up with ever more fearsome ways of punishing the imaginary homosexual rapist.
Actually, the whole film plays on a fear of male rape and, darkly, I suddenly wonder if there may be a hidden story there.
